  24. This is the latest release of NewsWatcher, one of the best and most popular MacTCP-based Usenet newsreaders.  The author is John Norstad, who's also known for writing and maintaining the classic Mac anti-viral program Disinfectant. This archive also contains documentation in Postcard format.

  34. I made a stupid mistake in the Internet Config password scrambling
  35. algorithm introduced in NewsWatcher 2.1.4. Fixed.
  36. This problem only affects people who use Internet Config and news
  37. servers which require authentication and use the "Save password" option.
  38. The first time you run the new 2.1.5 version, you will have to reset
  39. your password.

  45. MacSoup and NewsWatcher were incompatible if you used an authenticating
  46. news server and you also used Internet Config to save your news
  47. authentication password. This happened because MacSoup was properly
  48. "scrambling" the password according to the Internet Config rules, but
  49. NewsWatcher was not. Fixed. Thanks to Ralph Lindberg, Ellen Winnie, and
  50. Brian Clark for reporting this problem.
  51. Unfortunately, this fix for the MacSoup problem will cause problems for
  52. peeople who use authenticating news servers and Internet Config with
  53. NewsWatcher, whether you use MacSoup or not. The first time you run the
  54. new 2.1.4 version of NewsWatcher, you will have to reset your password.
  55. There was yet another problem with using Internet Config and
  56. authenticating servers. If you had the "Save Password" option turned
  57. off, NewsWatcher was sometimes saving your password using IC anyway.
  58. Fixed.
  59. NewsWatcher didn't work properly with a Microsoft news server which used
  60. a non-standard response code for one of the NNTP commands. Fixed.
  61. (NewsWatcher now accepts the response code 224 in addition to 221 for
  62. the XHDR and XPAT commands.) Thanks to Eric P. Scott for reporting this
  63. problem.
  64. Brian Clark found an obscure error involving building threads when
  65. multipart postings have followups. Fixed. Thanks, Brian!
  66. In some rare circumstances, canceling a "Get Group List from Host" or
  67. "Send Group List to Host" operation could cause NewsWatcher to crash.
